NFS PS: Interview with Junkie XL at Gamespot |
Monday, 24.12.2007 |
The onlinemagazine Gamespot made an interview with the dutch DJ and musician Junkie XL, who also made the soundtrack for Need for Speed ProStreet.
He talks about his projects, the difference between movies and video games and the future of soundtracks.
Excerpt:
GS: Now you've worked with Microsoft on Forza, but you've most often worked with EA. Need for Speed ProStreet marks your fifth collaboration with the publisher--what brought you back?
JXL: Well in general EA is happy with the games I have worked on. If they are looking for a music approach within a certain style they know I am the guy for it. I’d love to point out that this feels very natural for me, sometimes people ask me, 'How can EA have tricked you into doing music for video games?" But it’s not like that. It fits my style of music and my audience very well.
GS: Often racing game soundtracks just sound like music you'd be listening to on the radio while driving. However, you've composed original electronic tracks for racing games--how do you try and convey a sense of speed in a song?
JXL: It’s not easy. When you make music in these types of games it needs to have a certain vibe and it should work on your nerves so that the experience becomes very intense. It’s always hard to come up with a score that makes everybody happy but I believe that since the music is interactive and is there to enhance the game experience it’s not really a problem if the music doesn’t fit the gamers music taste exactly.

NFS PS: Patch released! [Update] |
Tuesday, 18.12.2007 |
The anounced patch for Need for Speed ProStreet was finally released today. There are no release-notes yet, but according to earlier statements from EA, it should contain several bugfixes and the long awaited LAN-mode.
With more than 200 MB it's a quite big patch, which you can download from the EA server on the following page. The files will be available on our servers soon.
Please note the difference between the DVD- and the EA Store Version. Most of you will need the DVD-patch, in case you own the DVD. ;)
Update:
The patch contains the Booster Pack, which is presented as a christmas present from EA and Coke Zero for all gamers. The Booster Pack contains two new tracks, new events, and an extended career mode. So you can find there the new cars 2007 SEAT Leon Cupra and 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, as well as the certified Porsche test track in Leipzig and the Tokyo Expressway in Japan.
Update 2:
As it seems the previous published patch files were only for european versions of NFS ProStreet, because now EA released another patch file, which seems to be for the US versions. Download in the patch-section.

NFS PS: Patch is coming at the end of December |
Thursday, 06.12.2007 |
Unfortunately NFS ProStreet isn't running as good as it should on PCs. Many of you experience framerate droppings, slowdowns for now reason and crashes. This should hopefully be solved at the end of December, because EA is already working on a patch for the game, which should fix some bugs and adds LAN functionality. For more information, please read on:
First off, alot of you have been looking forward to LAN play and I'm pleased to say we will be releasing a LAN patch towards the end of December. Included in the patch will be fixes for many of the existing bugs. A large issue in this thread deals with choppy gameplay and crashes - although our team is constantly working on this issue with the feedback you have all provided - we were hoping some of you might be able to help us even further by sending us your computer's DXDIAG file, so that they can further investigate the problem by looking at the specs of your individual machines. In order to get your DXDIAG file, follow these simple steps:
-In Windows, press START > Run...
-type in "dxdiag" and hit OK
-If prompted, hit YES in the dialogue box
-Once the status bar on the bottom left side of the box completes, hit SAVE ALL INFORMATION
-The information gets saved into a .TXT document
You can then email that .TXT document to nfs@ea.com with Subject line: ProStreet DxDiag
I hope this helps to answer some of your questions, and please know that all of us in the studio are continually working to make your ProStreet experience a great one.
