NFS Shift: Visuals Preview Tuesday, 18.08.2009
NFS ShiftAfter the » Performance Upgrades and the » Tuning Preview the GamerZines Blog gives a little insight on the Visuals in Need for Speed Shift!

The visual tuning is divided into the areas "Paint", "Rims" und "Vinyls". While "paint" and "rims" is quite self-explanatory, the description of the vinyls is worth a reading:

Tuning

The final section in the Visuals menu is ‘Vinyls’. Each car comes with a set of four unique liveries plus the ability to create your own using vinyls and decals. There are hundreds of vinyls to choose from split across 26 different categories, including Animals, Flames, Numbers, Flags and even Pirates & Ninjas. The majority are locked at the beginning of the game, with each design gradually unlocking as you level up in the career.

You’re able to stick numerous amounts of vinyls to individual parts of the car’s bodywork, including the Left Body, Right Body, Front Body, Rear Body, Top Body, Wing Body, Left Window, Right Window, Front Window, Rear Window and Top Window (if you have one), with options to move, scale, rotate, skew, flip and colour each individual vinyl.

We managed to stick upwards of 50 vinyls onto our car’s Left Body, and despite trying our best to find it, we’re still not entirely sure what the layer count limit is, or indeed if there actually is one. The vinyl editor appears to be an incredibly versatile tool, and one that looks likely to appease any budding car artists when Shift finally launches next month. We can’t wait to see your designs!

NFS Shift: Tuning Preview Tuesday, 18.08.2009
After the » Performance Upgrades the GamersZine Blog posts some details about the Tuning in Need for Speed Shift.

The tuning is split into two different screens: the "Quick Tuning" for fast and basic gamers and the "Advanved Tuning" for the hardcore racers.

Quick Tuning is a streamlined and relatively basic approach to tuning up your car, giving the player the options to tweak four specific areas: Gearing, Downforce, Steering Lock and Wheel Balance. Two of these sections are locked out until you purchase specific vehicle upgrades, with the ability to tweak your gearing locked until you purchase a Stage 1 Drivetrain, while fiddling with the Downforce requires a body kit being installed.

Tuning

The same is true for much of the Advanced Tuning menu, with the majority of the options requiring the purchase of a specific upgrade before being given the option to tinker. But provided you have the upgrade, from here you can tweak individual elements of your tires and brakes, springs and dampers, alignment, differential, gearing, and aerodynamics in far greater detail than that allowed in the Quick Tuning menu. For example, the Aerodynamics tab provides options for tweaking the car’s Front Downforce, Rear Downforce, Cooler Radiator Opening and Brake Duct Opening, while the Gearing tab allows you to tweak each gear ratio.

Don’t know what any of that means? Don’t worry. Audio tips activated with a shoulder button also explain how tuning each specific aspect will affect your car’s handling on the track.
