NFS Shift: Demo comes after the release Saturday, 12.09.2009
NFS ShiftLast week the release of a demo of Need for Speed Shift was » uncertain. Now we have good news for all who are waiting: EA listened to your demands and there will be a demo of NFS Shift available for Playstation 3, Xbox360 and PC. The bad news is, that the demo is coming at the end of September/start of October. (Well, better late than never :).)
So if you want to try out the game before purchase, you have to be patient.

The NFS Shift demo will most likely contain the two tracks London River and SPA Francorchamps. You can drive with four cars at the beginning: the Dodge Viper, Lotus, BMW M3 and Nissan R35. If you manage to collect all ten driver badges, you could unlock a Pagani Zonda and take it for a spin.

You can see an introduction of the two tracks in our movie-section:

NFS Shift: IGN gives a 9.0 rating Friday, 11.09.2009
NFS ShiftThe onlinemagazine IGN got their hands on Need for Speed Shift for the PS3 and wrote a four-pages article. To make it short: the game received an outstanding score of 9.0 out of 10. Additionally NFS Shift was awarded with the IGN Editor's Choice Award!

Excerpt:
Need for Speed Shift is a glorious return to greatness (and even excellence) for EA's seminal racing franchise. Slightly Mad Studios has delivered a driving experience that, while not completely accurate in terms of its simulation aspects, is practically dead-on in terms of what it's like to race around some of the world's best racing circuits. The career mode could (and should) have been a little better, but the act of driving is basically phenomenal.

NFS Shift: Successor of ProStreet Monday, 07.09.2009
NFS ShiftNeed for Speed Shift is being developed by the Slightly Mad Studios. On a question from GamerZines, whether SMS had always intended for Shift to be a Need for Speed title, Lead Designer Andy Tutor replied the following:

"Yeah. It (Shift) actually started out as ProStreet 2.

You'll see the obvious references, like we've got the Tokyo track in there, albeit a bit more mature; there's no balloons or anything like that. The thing with ProStreet was that they couldn't go straight from street racing to a track racer - that would have annoyed a few people. So it was really the first stage of the transition, mixing courses with the street stuff, and this is where they (EA) always wanted it to go.

We've had a few battles, you know, 'put cops in, put nitrous on everything', but we just said 'come on, let's do this properly, shall we?' And we did. Shift is the game we always wanted to make, just under a different name to how it started."

NFS ProStreet was the first "outlier" from the Need for Speed series in 2007 and featured more realistic races. It's no surprise the developers took an existing game as a model, but on the technical side it's likely that NFS Shift is based on the Ferrari Project which was put on ice after the announcement of SMS's involvement with the NFS series.
