NFS World goes Free 2 Play! |
Thursday, 09.09.2010 |
EA is opening Need for Speed World for everyone by removing the Level 10 limit and turning the game into a real Free to Play game! Previously, gamers who didn't buy the Starter Pack were unable to progress past Level 10. Beginning today, anyone will be able to race all the way through to Level 50 and will have full access to the entire World, all Events and Game Modes, both present and future.
Who already bought the starter pack before today (Sept 8th) will soon be receiving a little present from EA in the form of three free 7-day car rental vouchers for the BMW M3 GTR, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and the Audi R8 4.2 FSI Quattro.
With the complete opening of NFS World the game will likely get a new boost, especially after the announcement of several updates, we already wrote about in our Feature Preview.
By the way, our NFS World Leaderboards are currently in beta phase. If you want to challenge the NFS-Planet Community, just enter your NFS World driver name under Gameaccounts and check your race times at our Leaderboards!

NFS Community Racing @ Gamescom |
Friday, 03.09.2010 |
The Gamescom 2010 was a cool event, where we saw new features of Need for Speed World and got our hands on NFS Hot Pursuit. And since all NFS community leaders were gathered, we got the possibility to get some real-life action: EA Germany took us cart racing, where we could taste some NFS feeling for real.
They made a video, which is unfortunately in German (with English subtitles), but you get an impression:
It was hell lotta fun! :)

NFS World to feature Dolby Axon Voice Chat |
Friday, 03.09.2010 |
EA and Dolby announced today to bring the voice chat technology Dolby Axon to Need for Speed World before the December holiday season. Dolby Axon is a high-quality voice chat, especially for gamers, which delivers a clear communication by improved audio chain processing (noise suppression, echo suppression).
Stephane Grefford, Producer of Need for Speed World: "In Need for Speed World, we’re able to continually update the game with new technology to provide the best MMO racing experience for our players. Working with Dolby Axon, we can give gamers a seamless channel of communication enabling in-game collaboration towards becoming the top racer. We’re excited to be the first title in North America to incorporate Dolby Axon to help enhance our players’ overall racing experience."
This can be quite interesting, since Dolby Axon also features Surround sound voice chat (when is is implemented in the game), which means you hear the voices of gamers based on their position in the game.
You can find more information about Dolby Axon on the official website, or read this hands-on article at Gamepro:

NFS Hot Pursuit at PAX 2010 |
Friday, 03.09.2010 |
The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is being held this weekend in Washington. Of course EA built up a booth for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, so if you happen to visit the PAX, make sure to step by, if only it's just for one of these reasons:
- The NFSHP On Tour photobooth will be on the showroom floor, so be sure to show which side you’re on – Racer or Chaser
- The NFS ladies will be around all weekend as well, so make sure to get one (or all of them!) in your photobooth photo!
- Get there early and be ready to race because the first 100 people to beat the fastest time on the event will get a limited edition PAX shirt

NFS World: Win Win Win! |
Thursday, 02.09.2010 |
Haven't played Need for Speed World yet? At the moment there are quite some competitions going on, where you can win a Starter Pack code! We give you a short heads up:
The first is ISRC, where you have to do weekly races in NFS World. The fastest driver wins a Starter Pack. After all races, another Starter Pack is given to the pariticpan with the most points, so you don't necessarily have to win a race:
ISRC Competition
World-Garage created a cool Rate My Ride Competition, where the best submitted cars of NFS World get voted. The best three win either a Starter Pack, or a World-Garage T-Shirt, if you have no use for the Starter Pack.

NFSCars has a competition, where the fastest racer on "Welcome to Palmont" can win (you guess it) a NFS World Starter Pack! :)

Update:
TCM also set up a competition, where they're looking for those with the longest pursuits in NFS World:

We will swim with the mainstream and giving away some Starter Pack codes as well soon, so don't go too far away. ;)
In the meantime, if you haven't played NFS World yet, go to the official website and try it for free:
