NFS The Run: Q&A Friday, 06.05.2011
The RunA new Q&A about Need for Speed The Run was published on the official official Need for Speed website, answering some questions about the new Need for Speed:

Why use the Frostbite 2.0 engine?

One of our goals with Need for Speed The Run was to set the bar for visuals higher than any previous Need for Speed, and working with DICE’s revolutionary Frostbite 2.0 engine, we’re able to do that. The visual quality in Need for Speed The Run is unmatched among action racing games.

Three games in one year is a lot, what happened to the once-yearly Need for Speed?

Black Box was the company that put Need for Speed on the map, and has been developing Need for Speed The Run for more than two years already. Even though we’re more than six months away from release, we have some groundbreaking gameplay footage to show our fans at E3. Currently, there are three studios working on Need for Speed games, with Black Box and Criterion focusing on action racing experiences, and Slightly Mad Studios working on adrenalin-pumping simulations.

What can we expect from Autolog in Need for Speed The Run?

Autolog is back and better than ever. We’ve found plenty of new ways to encourage friendly – but heated – competition between you and your friends. Autolog is now a staple to the franchise and a feature we’ll continue to grow with each Need for Speed game.

Can you tell me anything about the story?

All we can say at this point about the story is that you’ll be drawn into an illicit, high-stakes race with no speed limits, no allies, and one goal: making it to New York first.

You said this year Need for Speed goes to the next level, what does that mean?

This year, we’re pushing the limits of everything you’ve expected from a Need for Speed game, with a gripping storyline, awe-inspiring visuals, and the most intense racing experience you’ll find anywhere.

How good are the car physics in Need for Speed The Run?

The development team is hard at work to create road-hugging physics that are in line with what you expect from an action racing Need for Speed game.

Well, so we will see the first gameplay scenes at this year's E3 Expo.

Additionally EA Games Label President Frank Gibeau talked at the last financial conference about Need for Speed: The Run, where players "weave through dense urban centers, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds, all the while evading a relentless police force prepared – and willing – to use lethal force to take you down".

AMD Catalyst 10.12 Thursday, 16.12.2010
NFS ShiftAMD released Catalyst v10.12, the driver package for their graphic cards. Apart from the new user interface, OpenGL 4.1 and the hardware acceleration for DivX-Videos, the release notes contain also a bugfix for Need for Speed Shift:

Need for Speed Shift no longer displays random corruption during game play if 2 races are played consecutively without exiting the game.

Unfortunately the release notes don't mention anything about the crash in Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, when overwriting the Antialiasing settings in the control center. Criterion said in their announcement of the next PC-Patch, that this bug should be fixed with Catalyst v10.12.

Next NFS Hot Pursuit PC Patch coming Friday, 03.12.2010
NFS Hot PursuitAfter the first PC-Patch for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, which addressed problems with Multicore CPUs and weather effects, now the next patch is in the works!

The following issues will be resolved with the next patch:

Groundcover Graphical Errors
When alt-tabbing, the groundcover would start to corrupt, causing random tree images to appear all over the screen.

Controller Configurations
On some machines controller configurations that have been set up for wheels, pads, etc are not saving correctly to a configuration file. This is now fixed.

Rare crash when entering the Career map screen
The game sometimes crashes when entering the Career map screen quickly after booting the game.

Rare crash when streaming graphical data
Fixed.

Steering response reported as having large dead zone
There was a deadzone. This is now fixed.

Player car engine volume too low

There remains an outstanding crash affecting players with AMD / ATI Radeon graphics cards if they have over-written the AA settings in the control centre. This occurs as you pick an event in the map screen prior to the car select.

Thankfully our friends at AMD/ATI have informed us that this will be fixed in the next release of AMD's drivers (10.12) around the second week of December.

Many thanks to the PC users who have reported problems and who have helped us investigate them further. We will update again when we know when the patch is likely to be with you all. If you find that you are having problems that are not addressed here or in the FAQ, please let us know by visiting bugzilla.criteriongames.com/pc/.

NFS Hot Pursuit: PC Patch announced for next Week Wednesday, 24.11.2010
NFS Hot PursuitMatt Webster from Criterion posted on the » official boards about the development of a PC patch for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, which should be released next week:

Thanks to everyone who has helped us track down the problems that have been heavily reported on these forums.

I'm pleased to be able to update you on the patch that will be forthcoming early next week.

Mulit-Core CPU's
We've now located and fixed the problem that players were reporting where the game would crash on Car Select, Map Screen, Loading screen or just at the start of an event. Interestingly we're actually intrigued that the game works at all after our investigations with the problem actually manifesting itself in code that we shipped as part of Burnout Paradise.

We've also taken the opportunity to address a couple of other reported problems.

Missing Rain / Snow and Corona effects
This have been fixed

CL Eye Driver crashing the game on startup
Fixed.

Corrupted Dreamshots in non 16:9 aspect ratios
Fixed.

We've also added D-BOX motion chair support.

Once again, thanks to all the players who helped us track down and identify the problem. We'll detail exactly when the patch will be available as soon as we can. As I said, it's likely to be early next week, but we need to go through the testing and certification systems that are in place prior to release.
