E3

The name Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, or as shown on one of the pictures - Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Race is quite interesting, as the third NFS game already carried the title "Hot Pursuit" and EA Black Box made a predecessor with "Hot Pursuit 2". We'll see, what Criterion Games will show us on Monday at the E3.

We'll keep you updated.

Need for Speed: Red Line? Wednesday, 19.05.2010
As » recently reported EA registered a pile of new domain names, of which one of them might be the name of the new Need for Speed game, scheduled for release at the end of 2010.

Criterion Games posted several mysterious cryptic twitter messages, as for example » this tweet:

Red Lining It.... (8:58 AM May 18th via web)

An hint to the name Need for Speed: Red Line? Or just a plain tweet without any real sense or background? The next tweet "All The Way And Making It Pay..." doesn't make things clearer...

What do you think? I guess we'll have to wait for the E3 in mid-June until we get more information.

Thanks to John for the heads up

Rumour: NFS Hot Pursuit Remake & NFS Shift 2? Saturday, 06.03.2010
Electronic ArtsNeed for Speed all around: Need for Speed World started this weekend its (western) » betaphase, but there are two more NFS titles in the works, which will be released in Q4 2010 and Q1 2011. (We wrote about that » here.)

Now we heard a rumour, that this year's NFS will be a Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, possibly a remake of the classic NFS III Hot Pursuit (1998). According to the name, we might can expect the return of police pursuits. It's not known yet, if the game will contain an open world.
If we can believe previous rumours, this might be the title Criterion Games is working on, who are the creators of the successful Burnout-series.

The second game is planned for release in the 1st quarter in 2011. As it seems, it'll be a successor of NFS Shift and possibly carry the name Need for Speed Shift 2. Given the success of NFS Shift this seems to be a logical step of EA.

As soon as we have more information, we'll keep you updated.

Releasedates of NFS World & other NFS titles Tuesday, 09.02.2010
Electronic ArtsElectronic Arts published its third quarter fiscal year 2010 results - apart from financial details, this report also unveils several release dates of upcoming titles.

The interesting thing is, that three new Need for Speed games seem to hit the stores within the 1-2 years:

- Need for Speed World (PC): April-June 2010
- Need for Speed TBA (PC, Console, Handheld): October-December 2010
- Need for Speed TBA (PC, Console): January-March 2011

NFS World is obviously the Online Racer, whose » Betaphase will start soon. One of the other two titles might be the Need for Speed developed by Criterion Games? (At least according to several rumours...)

But the third one? According to rumours in 2009 maybe EA Black Box is also working on a new NFS title - could that be true? We will see...

Rumour: Need for Speed: Out of the Law - UPDATE: Fake Monday, 11.01.2010
Update: The information in this news was confirmed to be fake: please scroll down for more information.

As already reported, Criterion Games is working on a new Need for Speed title. There wasn't much information about this game, until now: the russian website NFSUnlimited.ru published possible screenshots of this NFS, which seem to reveil the title of the game: Need for Speed: Out of the Law:

Out of the Law

It's not sure, whether we can believe this information or not, but according to the russian website the game will make its turn to street racing. Only this time you won't drive super-expensive exotics, but sports cars like the Nissan Skyline R32, or Mazda MX-5. Another interesting detail: for the first time in the history of the NFS series this game will presumably contain motorcycles! Maybe also SUVs. Additionally you will be able to choose your personal number plate on each machine.

Out of the Law

The game will be set in the fictional city Sun-Bay, which will have San Francisco as its prototype. The size of the city should be a bit larger than the one in Need for Speed Undercover.
The police will have an extended vehicle arsenal, presumably patrol motorcycles.

So far, these is quite interesting information, although you have to be very careful with what to believe. It wouldn't be the first time, that people spread false information. Particularly the second screenshot with the BMW seems to be a fake, since it looks like existing pictures from previous NFS titles. As soon as we know more, we'll let you know.

UPDATE: As Criterion Games announced, the pictures and information about this new NFS is definitely a fake and not true. Unfortunately this was expected...

Next NFS from Criterion confirmed for 2010 Wednesday, 11.11.2009
Electronic ArtsThe Need for Speed series is changing and made successful relaunch with Need for Speed Shift. Also the latest Need for Speed Nitro for Nintendo Wii and DS, which was released last week, received some good critics.

We already wrote about a new NFS which is being developed by Criterion Games. As Joystiq reports, this new Need for Speed title is planned for a release in 2010. EA Games label president Frank Gibeau mentioned: "In recent years, we failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, quality suffered". And: "Next year's Need for Speed has been under development now for some time at our award-winning Criterion Studio."

There are no details about this upcoming Need for Speed yet, but as Criterion developed the successful Burnout series, it's likely that this title will go more towards arcade and crashing...we will see...
