Das Onlinemagazin Gamespy hat die Xbox Version von Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 angetestet, und ein Preview geschrieben. Darin wird eingehend auf die Verfolgungsjagden und Polizisten eingegangen, und NFS Hot Pursuit 2 mehr oder weniger als "Standard-Arcade-Racing Spiel" eingestuft. Zwar wird der Copmodus gelobt, jedoch soll es dem Spiel an Originalität fehlen. The game's driving controls are standard for arcade racers, with the usual accelerate, break, and handbrake options. If you're driving the police car you must push the right analog stick to turn on your siren, otherwise you won't be able to bust the perp. The vehicles seemed perfectly responsive to the controls, so even if the game doesn't bowl you over with originality, you can still control your car like a seasoned arcade gamer. Über Geschmack lässt sich ja bekanntlich streiten, aber hoffen wir mal, dass NFS HP 2 kein 08/15 Produkt wird, wie es in dem Preview angedeutet wird. Gamespy Preview
