Ghost Games, the current developers of Need for Speed are planning the next Need for Speed game, which will be released in 2017.
The current NFS hit the stores in November 2015 for PS4 and Xbox One and this spring the PC version followed. Since then there were several free updates with features like Manual Transmission, Wrap Sharing, Snapshot Pro, SpeedLists, Customization items, bigger garage, Hot Rods and Drag Racing. Many of them implemented after the wishes from the community.
Now the SpeedList update will be the last free content-update, so that the developers can concentrate on the development of the new Need for Speed, which shall be built upon the foundations that have been laid with the latest NFS.
A new update for Need for Speed on PS4, Xbox One and PC will be released on Wednesday and introduces a new feature: the SpeedLists!
SpeedLists are a series of five pre-selected events that you compete in against other human opponents. Getting into the action is quick and easy, simply select the new SpeedList tile from the main menu, chose from Quick Play, Speed, Style or Mixed, and away you go.
At the end of each event you'll gain points for the place you finish. Then, once all events have been completed and the points tallied up, the final standings are displayed and the best racers shown off in a short cinematic sequence.
Additional updates in this patch are the Prestige-Mode, to challenge you reaching new scores and two new activities Drift Corners and Speed Runs.
You can find details about the upcoming patch here:
Finally, the new Need for Speed made it to the PC! Playstation 4 and Xbox One gamers could already cruise through the cities in November 2015, but now Need for Speed for PC hits the stores in North America.

With the Origin subscription you can try several games - Need for Speed is among them - and play them as a trial version for 10 hours, even before it gets released. Should you decide to buy the game, you'll get 10% off.
The next update for Need for Speed am 3. März introduces two new Hot Rods!
One of them is a 1932 Hot Rod, which comes with four unique Bodykits: Soft Top, Coupe, Sedan und Pickup.
Additionally each version of the Hot Rod also comes complete with a full set of customization, including Hood, Lights, Grille, Exhausts, Bumpers and more.
The second Hot Rod is the Aaron Beck 'BeckKustoms F132', which is based on a Ford 1932. With a Formula One style chassis and a high performance NASCAR engine, this is what you get.

Need for Speed was released this week, at least for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, PC players will have to wait until Spring 2016. As in most games, Need for Speed will also get DLCs which extend the game after the release.
In an interview with VICE the Creative Director Craig Sullivan announced that the developers won't charge players for upcoming DLCs. All content is given away for free:
All I can say is, honestly, hand on heart, is there are absolutely no plans to charge for content in this game. We're going to give you everything for free. I've seen the plans for what's going to happen over the next few weeks and months – there's nothing in there, by which I mean, we don't even have the ability to charge you in the game. There's no store to speak of.
Everything we're doing is focusing on listening to what the fans are asking for. They're certainly not saying to us, "Can you build a load of stuff and charge us for it?" They're not saying that, so we're not doing that. I know some people when we do press like this, they say, "Yeah, but I'm sure it'll all change in a week or two, or six months." It's not going to. The plan is that there are no transactions in this game. All of the content that we're going to give you – a pretty substantial amount in the future, starting pretty soon – is going to be free. That's what players deserve.
You can find the complete interview with Craig Sullivan at Vice here:
These days Need for Speed is being released for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version will have better graphics, but that's one of the reasons why the development takes longer and PC players have to wait until spring 2016. PC Games compared the graphics of the console versions and created a video showing the differences of Playstation 4 and Xbox One running Need for Speed:
Right before Need for Speed hits the stores EA published the Launch Trailer, which gives you an impression of the game. You can watch the video here:
Need for Speed is being released for Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 3rd, 2015 in US, November 5th in Europe. Members of EA Access could already hop into the game today, on October 29th.
Need for Speed reached the Gold-Status, which means the development is finished and the game can go into production.
Need for Speed is being released for Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 3rd, 2015 in US, November 5th in Europe. The PC version needs more work and comes in Spring 2016.
With EA Access you can start the game earlier, as a new trailer with The Lucas Brothers highlights:
Racing games have to feel as realistic as possible nowadays, which is even more important when it comes to authentic engine- and tiresounds.
For Need for Speed the audio engineers drove a BMW i8 over the Ebisu Circuit, to record with the electric engine the most realistic tire-sounds, without being drowned by the sounds of a fuel-powered engine.
You can read about that and sound recordings of other cars in the new article at Speedhunters:
EA added more cars to the list of cars that will be available in Need for Speed. Apparently there will be 51 cars, maybe there will be more available through DLCs.
Need for Speed will feature the BMW M2 Coupé, which will celebrate its video game debut. The model will be released in April 2016, but players can already drive it in Need for Speed in November 2015.
The BMW M2 Coupé represents the successor of the historical BMW 1 Series M Coupé. With its 6-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive, the BMW M2 Coupé sets new benchmarks in terms of driving dynamics and agility. Moreover, the consistent use of iconic M design elements contributes to its expressive design and authentic M appearance. With an engine output of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm, this car is a power pack, letting you know the true promise of ultimate driving pleasure!
The soundtrack of the upcoming Need for Speed was announced and 61 artists from 16 different countries will be included on the official Need for Speed Soundtrack. Among them the Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy, but also AVICII, Major Lazer, Aero Chord, Photek and Battle Tapes.
To get an impression of the songs EA published the soundtrack on Spotify.

In a FAQ Ghost Games anwers a couple of questions about the upcoming Need for Speed.
It reveals some interesting details, like that there will be no micro transactions and also no paid DLCs, but free content updates.
The world "Ventura Bay" should contain approximately twice the amount of drivable roads than NFS Rivals. In there garage there is space for up to five cars you can own in the game.
Regarding the internet connection EA states the following: You will need a persistent internet connection, as Need for Speed is committed to being a live service so we can deliver an ongoing experience that is constantly changing and evolving. We will include free content updates and challenges as an ever-present ways for you to earn rewards and continually explore the game.

Bad news for PC gamers: the release date of Need for Speed for PC moved to spring 2016!
Ghost Games wants to deliver the best gaming experience also on PC, which is why they need more development time:
Part of the conversation includes hearing from our PC community that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016. Our PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates will remain the same, starting November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide.
This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one.
PC-gamers may have to look for a different game for Christmas. Playstation 4 and Xbox One will still be released in November. To test the servers, there will be a closed beta-test for which you can sign up for here.
Ghost Games wants to prepare for the launch of Need for Speed and invites players to a closed beta on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
You can register on the official NFS website for the closed beta, but the space is limited, so not everyone will be able to participate. The registration ends on September 25th.
On this year's Gamescom several famous "youtubers" like GTA Wise Guy, TheLetsPlayNoob05, BlackPanthaa or TeamVVV captured gameplay of the upcoming Need for Speed and published their videos on Youtube.
For example here is a drifting-gameplay video by GTA Wise Guy:
You can find more video on the Youtube-Playlist of Need for Speed, or our affiliate website NFS-Serie.at:
Need for Speed relies on the always-on principle, which means in order to play you have to be connected to the internet. This has many advantages, but also disadvantages because you depend on the availability of the servers and your internet connection. Executive Producer Marcus Nilsson explains in the Official Xbox Magazine why they want to use always-on:
"We’ve been pretty big with Autolog throughout the years and, as we know, it’s a really powerful feature," says Nilsson. "This time around we’re going to give it more of a human voice. It will treat your friend’s play as if it is part of the narrative experience."
Additionally the game features a new image sharing system:
We also have a new snapshot system as well," adds Nilsson. "Which is taking pictures of a lot of different moments – [they go] out to the Need for Speed network where people can ‘like’ them, and those likes are being pushed back into the game as currency. So you get progression from sharing your photos.
The upcoming Need for Speed will feature 5 Icons the player will encounter in the game. Those Icons are (in their genre) famous drivers and tuners, eacah representing different areas:
Outlaw-Icon
Become an Outlaw, messing with and escaping from the cops. Always looking to raise the stakes through risk vs reward driving, pushing the limits and looking over your shoulder. Live life on the edge as you crave the thrill of the chase.
Morohoshi-san is usually found prowling Tokyo’s expressways late at night in any one of his heavily modified and brightly coloured Lamborghinis, little is known about the real Shinichi Morohoshi, a man with one foot in normal society and one in the underworld. Morohoshi-san is a walking contradiction, an oxymoron caught between his love of the fastest, the loudest and the flashiest street cars in existence and a desire to keep who and what he is, to himself.
Style-Icon
Style is pure expression through driving, sending your car into a corner sideways with ultimate precision. It’s the feeling of freedom for that split second as your tires leave the ground, when you find yourself in a place where only you and the car exist. For some, style is all that matters.
Ken Block might just be the undisputed king of the internet and has quickly become one of the most recognisable faces and names in the automotive game. Years of driving in top-tier rally, X-Games competitions and his famous Gymkhana videos watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world have honed his skills behind the wheel. Few, if any, can match his ability to throw a flame-belching car sideways with such incredible precision.
In a realm where an inch can mean the difference between worldwide fame or global ridicule, Block rules the streets.
Build Icon
Build is where you take your car to the extreme through both visual and performance modification. The constant need to improve and personalize, shaping the car to your own vision. Craftsmen build, searching for perfection.
Nakai-san
Akira Nakai is a true automotive artist, an artisan builder who uses feel, emotion and nuance to build some of the world’s wildest Porsches. Based out of a small shop in the back blocks of rural Chiba, near Tokyo, Nakai-san has taken his long-running Rauh Welt Begriff brand of Porsche tuning to the world, and now spends much of his time travelling across the globe, building super-aggressive cars for an almost cult-like following of customers.
Speed Icon
Speed is the connection that exists between car and driver that is only present at top speeds. It’s about keeping your nerve and never lifting off the gas. It’s about the adrenaline rush of taking a corner at high speed, having faith that your car will hold firm and not lose grip. The fearless always push the limits.
Magnus Walker
Magnus Walker is one of the most recognisable characters in the automotive world, not just for the dreadlocks and majestic beard, but the accompanying roar of a turbocharged flat-six cylinder howling through the open exhausts of a Porsche “Widowmaker” 930 Turbo.
Magnus may collect and modify classic Porsches, but he’s never been afraid to get out and push them as far as he can on the mean city streets and canyon roads of Los Angeles.
Crew-Ikone
Ride together with your Crew and never hit the streets alone. Put your faith in others as bumpers come within inches of one another. This is the skill of close proximity chaos.
The name Risky Devil has been synonymous with the underground street drifting scene in Chicago. Fish, AJ, Cook, Stevo and T2 are drivers of some of the most badass, tyre-incinerating and envy-inducing street sliders found anywhere, this crew has long been running the midnight streets in this part of the world.
Always coating their machines in a violent shade of blood red, Risky Devil has constantly pushed the boundaries to the absolute limit in search of perfect form, both when it comes to driving and their VIP-inspired, spark-throwing style.
Technically they put a lot of effort in the production and the sequences during the game are created with realtime compositing, where real persons are planted in the game, or the other way round you can find your own car in movie scenes, which creates an interesting graphical mixture:
Speedhunters published some reference pictures that the development team of the upcoming Need for Speed tried to recreate in the game. The result looks pretty amazing!
Youtuber RavenwestR1 took the Need for Speed Trailer of the upcoming Need for Speed to re-create it in GTA V. It took him 9 days - quite funny to see the polished Need for Speed cars in rather bulky the GTA-style:
Electronic Arts presented the upcoming Need for Speed at the E3, which will be called just "Need for Speed", without any suffixes.
As suggested in the teaser, the game is about underground races, combined with rich tuning possiblities, urban car culture and an open world.
The trailer and gameplay video give you a glimpse of the game, which will be released on November 5th 2015:
Apart from a narrative story the game offers five ways a player can play in the game: Speed, Style, Build, Crew and Outlaw.
Need for Speed 2015 will require an online connection, according to a tweet from the official Need for Speed account.
A reason for that is to "allow your friends to be part of your narrative experience, something only possible through connected play."
This includes both multi- and singleplayer.
There is not much information about the game yet, but more details are to come.
Apparently too early the Xbox store listed details about the upcoming Need for Speed. According to the (already removed) text, the game will be released on 3. November 2015 right in time for the season.
Additionally the articles describes some more details:
Five Ways to Play: Need for Speed returns with 5 unique ways to play, Speed, Style, Build, Crew and Outlaw, enabling you to earn reputation and ultimately win your way.
West Coast Urban Setting: Discover a nocturnal open world of urban car culture you never knew existed. Ventura Bay is your urban playground, from downtown, the harbour and the canyons, the city comes alive while you sleep.
The new Need for Speed is coming this fall 2015, but so far Ghost Games doesn't reveal very much about the game, apart from the teaser trailer.
Only on Gamespot the general manager Marcus Nilsson gives an interview and some insights into the game:
Ghost Games took a year off to find out what the fans really want from a Need for Speed game and try to develop it in several years. A big part of the game will be the story, which came too short in previous NFS games, according to Nilsson. They have an innovative approach on how to tell the story, but Nilsson didn't want to go into detail. With a story though, the game can connect players much better emotionally.
Another point are the online features: Ghost Games wants to "advance the seamless online mode from Rivals, AllDrive, offering players a range of new tools to help them start playing with friends and groups."
Other people can enter your game in the single-player-story-mode and interact with you.
Nilsson has a positive outlook on the racing genre and since the last Need for Speed games didn't sell that well compared to 10 years ago, there is still room for more, but it'll be difficult to compete with other games and especially other media like Facebook and TV.
The upcoming Need for Speed 2015 is still nameless, but EA released a teaser trailer to give you a little glimpse of the game:
"Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we're returning it to greatness in this reboot," said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. "Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.
Fuelled by EA's own car culture community, Speedhunters, Need for Speed will deliver an experience that's grounded in authentic car culture by diving into the rich world of past, present and emergent trends of the urban car scene. This collaboration with Speedhunters in the research and development of the game means the level of detail and real-world authenticity will envelop gamers in an exciting world to discover and enjoy in a way that only Need for Speed can deliver.
The game will be released this fall for PC (Origin), Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Rumours are floating around the web and on Reddit an alleged Ex-EA-employee shares information about the upcoming Need for Speed - decide for yourself if it's trustworthy or not.
According to him the new game will be called Need for Speed Underground 3 and will be fully revealed on the E3 2015. The development started in October 2011 and in the current build there are 43 cars available. (more are being added) The game will be extended by 2 DLCs in Q1 2016 (Fast & Furious (name still undefined) pack and unique decals from racing sponsors and japanese cars).
There won't be drifting challenges, but instead so-called "Point Blank races" and Speed Hunters Challenges.
Technically the game runs on a heavily modified Frostbite 3 engine, which runs with 1080p and 30 FPS on Playstation 4 and 900p and 30 FPS on Xbox One.
There will be a semi-open world, you can take a look at the following map:
Additionally Overwatch will be available and full customization of vehicles and their assets possible. The music style is RnB, Hip-Hop and Electronic.

Of course there is no validity of this information. The Reddit user titled his thread with "Need For Speed Underground 3 - May 21th. Fired since March so enjoy..., so we will see what EA will officially reveal today.
EA Ghost Games is working on a new Need for Speed, which presumably will be released at the end of the year. There is not much known yet, but today EA changed the header of its official Facebook-page, hinting an announcement of the "Return of NFS". On 21st May something will be announced on the official youtube-page.
VG247 brightened the header up a bit, so you can see there are "two cars drifting across a city track, in a manner not unlike that of the Underground series."
Guess we will see on May 21st what this is all about :)
With the new financial quarter reports Electronic Arts announced some details about the upcoming games and confirmed that a new Need for Speed will return in late 2015 or beginning of 2016 to PC and concoles!
There is nothing known about the game yet, only that Ghost Games wanted to take its time to develop a good game, which was the reason why we had no Need for Speed in 2014.
Another small variant of NFS will also be released this year, which is Need for Speed No Limits. A mobile game, currently in testing in Taiwan and the Netherlands.
