NFS: The Run - The Story (so far) |
Tuesday, 28.06.2011 |
At the moment there is not much known about the story in Need for Speed: The Run, but as the release comes closer more information is coming up. An article at the official website sums up the story facts so far:
Excerpt:
Everything begins when Jack gets himself into some very serious trouble, and the only way to solve his problem is to enter and win an illicit, 150-driver race form San Francisco to New York.
In Chicago, where the demo takes place, you (as Jack) are only 800 miles from NYC. Jack is aware that the mob is involved, but in the streets of Chicago, he realizes just how invested they are in keeping him from finishing the race. You’ll also notice that since you’re in the later stages of an illicit race, a lot of law enforcement is trying to bring your Run to an end.
Additionally the article explains the limitations of free-roam, that the out-of-the-car sequences are mostly meant to bring the story forward and get to other cars.

NFS The Run: Hands-On at P3Zines |
Thursday, 16.06.2011 |
Gamerzines took a closer look at Need for Speed: The Run and featured a five-page article in the web magazine P3Zines.
An interesting detail might be the possible implementation of a flashback-feature, similar to the one in DiRT 3.
Excerpt:
Of course, you might be wondering how all that fits in with Autolog – after all, the very principle of Autolog is to test your skill, and QTEs aren’t exactly the most taxing mechanic. We’re told that the out- of-car sequences don’t contribute to your overall time, and to save frustration when it comes to honing your run, they’ll be skippable once you’ve completed the level. An icon hidden in the HUD also suggests that a time-rewind mechanic similar to DiRT 3’s flashback system may be introduced – something which will no doubt add another tactical edge to Autolog competition – although at this point Black Box seems reluctant to go into any detail.
Despite a dented confidence, after just a couple of hours spent with Black Box it’s clear that the team’s ambition for The Run is reassuringly high and encouragingly ballsy.
“We’re shooting for a 90+ game,” concludes Anthony. “We don’t care whether or not the critics give it to us because of the baggage at Black Box. If we think we’ve delivered a 90 that’s all that matters. Consumers will tell us one way or the other.”
