Short Description: When dual-core processors cause performance impacts

Who has a Dual-Core processor may can experience some performance leaks in games, although the hardware should be good enough.

In this case - if you have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 - you can download drivers from AMD which you can find here:
» AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2.2

Additionally Microsoft has an inofficial hotfix for Windows XP (32-Bit), which may be included in the next service pack. You can also download it here, but you do all this on your own risk!

» NFSMW Support-Downloads

A detailed desciption about the hotfix from Microsoft can you find here:

Now you have to to disable the new performance state policy behavior by editing the registry. Important: You do all this on your own risk!

2. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, point to New, and then click Key.
3. Type Throttle for the new key name.
4. Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
5. Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.
6. Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.
7. In the Value data box, type 0. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.
