ProStreet gets dubious honors Wednesday, 02.01.2008
NFS Pro StreetThe onlinemagazine Gamespot honors the best games from 2007 in many different categories. Users could vote for their beloved games and additionally the onlinemagazine published "Editor's Choice Winners" in every categoriy.
The Game of the Year 2007 is - according to the user votings - Forza Motorsport 2 (X360), the Editor's Choice Winner is Super Mario Galaxy (Wii).

Need for Speed ProStreet was nominated in only one category, which is unfortunately one of the "Dubious Honors" categoriy: Most Despicable Use of In-Game Advertising
While users voted clearly for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (57 %) to get this negative-award, the Editor's Choice Winner is Need for Speed ProStreet.

But maybe the guys from Gamespot didn't really understand the game, because in their comment they say that auto racing is a sport with much advertising, but NFS ProStreet is a street-racing game and "street racing isn't exactly the world's most popular, mainstream, televised sport".

Well, but the use of advertising in Xbox Live seems to be the determining factor for this decision:

Likewise, Need for Speed ProStreet isn't exactly an example of in-game advertising restraint. Playing the game offline isn't all that offensive, but as soon as you jump on to Xbox Live, the deluge begins. Aside from the fact that the game gives you the option to flat-out pay $25 in real money to unlock advanced cars (and get an unfair advantage over players who start from the bottom), and that it constantly pesters you with this "option" each time you go to buy an in-game car, the game has dynamic ads that start downloading the very first time you get online. What's worse and even more ridiculous is that the game's Xbox Live achievement points have ads attached to them. That's right, even the achievements in this game are brought to you by a commercial sponsor. This kind of obnoxious salesmanship really hurts the game experience and makes ProStreet a lock for this category.

Street Racing

I agree with whoever said NFS should have stayed illegal! I thought PS was fun but I still would have liked this game to have all it's cool features plus all the cool features from previous NFS games. Gran Turismo was way better!

cant edit comments--

anyone else notice at 2:18-2:21 the moron says that you "cant seem to use your custom cars online".

these guys are game reviewers, and completely fail to see what we have..

if you have chosen to select easy, medium, or hard, you wont get to select your own cars-- once you select elite difficulty you can.. no wonder people should quit listening to paid reviewers

GameSpot got it wrong.... NFS Pro Street is not about street racing, its about motor sport just look at the tracks and physical attributes. All NFS before this one have been about street racing yes... But not NFS PS, they should have another look... and anyways not surprising that PS didn't get any big awards lol I mean its only fair... it tried to compete in the simulation category and Forza was clearly better... EA should have stuck to actually illegal street racing. Thats what they are good at, NFS Underground 1 started this whole illegal street racing era and it ruled but now NFS is just some racing game.
