The onlinemagazine IGN got their hands on Need for Speed Shift for the PS3 and wrote a four-pages article. To make it short: the game received an outstanding score of 9.0 out of 10. Additionally NFS Shift was awarded with the IGN Editor's Choice Award!

Excerpt:
Need for Speed Shift is a glorious return to greatness (and even excellence) for EA's seminal racing franchise. Slightly Mad Studios has delivered a driving experience that, while not completely accurate in terms of its simulation aspects, is practically dead-on in terms of what it's like to race around some of the world's best racing circuits. The career mode could (and should) have been a little better, but the act of driving is basically phenomenal.

I'm not particularly impressed with Chris Roper's review. He gave it an excellent rating which is certainly a boon. But despite Chris's insistence that he's a hard core enthusiast, I think his review is more that of a casual gamer. Case in point:

- He never clarifies if he played the game in full simulation mode or arcade mode when he talks about the physics.

- The videos, which I assume are him driving, have all driving aids turned on, including the racing line.

- He alludes that he played the game the entire time with the controller rather than a wheel.

- He glosses over certain features of the on-line, such as private lobbies, that would be a top priority in some circles.

- He makes one too many reference to GT as the benchmark rather than iRacing or Rfactor. *
