Sorry if I wasn't clear enough before, I didn't mean to say 'closed tracks' but more like 'racing tracks' or 'legal tracks' or whatever.

Open world is OK, but I can live without it, all I want is some ilegal racing, which has always been the core of NFS, maybe not the first two games, can't remember exactly, but NFS 1 was made for Road and Track and NFS 2 could only be a slight move away from the idea of the first one. NFS 3 really changed the series into the NFS we all know and love.

See NFS 3 - a bunch of Lambos, Porsches and Ferraris rushing down the highway through exotic scenery, top down, leaving large clouds of dust behind them, and then a few cops in other exotics start chasing them... this had always remained like that until Underground, which moved the series to the tuner culture, and, while removing the cops and the damage model, kept the illict feel about it. NFS U2 perfected this idea, and MW brought the cops back at the price of a crippled customization system (one kind of shop, little mods, only one vinyl per car). Carbon seemed like an attempt at making something inbetween U2 and MW, and had some crazy features and lots of stuff was over-simplififed, but still was pretty fun to play. ProStreet was a move away from everything, and, while being a really good game and keeping the street culture, wasn't received too warmly by the players - it wasn't really NFS. Undercover IMO could have been pretty good but it felt somehow unfinished. Shift? Haven't played it, but I don't have any real interest in the game. Visual customization is pretty cool, no doubt, but the image and idea of the game is so non-NFS, they should've better started a new franchise instead, it would be a hit among those who don't play 'real' NFS, which is illict and arcade - exactly what Shift is not. I think Shift wins as game but fails as a NFS.

Just like you, I have had some enjoyment from all the NFS games I've played, and I think there's something good about each one of them, but in my opinion, Shift is just too... different. It has little or nothing to do with the NFS franchise. It seems like some developers who have never seen an NFS game got their hands on the name and made a new game... oh wait, that's actually more or less what happened.

Well

KsbJAhttp://www.nfs-planet.de/mco_screens.php

It started as closed track, porche challenge was close track, THEN the decided to move in street racing because it was the the big think...then track racing events became big around the world...but fans wanted open world again with UC...but it was meh.

Ive enjoyed ALL NFS games apart from ProStreet and Underground 1 and to some extent Undercover.

Shift has tons of visual customization in it, its insane! Shame that theres STILL not that many cards of "physical" upgrades.

The game may be really good, but it has absolutely nothing to do with NFS. NFS has always been more arcade than sim, and closed-track racing is also non-NFS. I think many NFS fans will most likely dump this game but people who didn't like NFS before will enjoy playing Shift. I'm not really excited about the game myself, I'm waiting for World Online. Again, I think Shift is likely to be a very good, high quality game, but I know that's not the game many NFS players were waiting for.
