NFS PS: Community Parade in Germany |
Wednesday, 28.11.2007 |
Last week Need for Speed ProStreet was released in Europe and to celebrate the release Electronic Arts invited to a community parade in six german cities with tuned cars from the community, hot girls and afterparties. The community parade took place on November 24th in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. NFS fans could apply for the parade by uploading fotos of their cars. The best cars were chosen and before the parade, they got pimped up with ProStreet and EA stickers. After that, the convoys drove through the towns.
After the parade in the evening the party moved to bars and clubs in the six cities, where people also could play Need for Speed ProStreet. The 18-year-old Christoph Gaube won against 133 candidates from the five other cities.
You can find some impressions in our image gallery. The photos were sent in from our community member Toretto.

NFS PS: Unlock hidden cars in ProStreet! |
Tuesday, 27.11.2007 |
Need for Speed ProStreet doesn't only contain cars, you can drive directly in the game, there are also files of other cars, which aren't unlocked for the game. cparty put some effort in looking up the right hex-codes, which help you unlocking the secret and hidden cars. You will need to do some changes in the memory, using a memory editor, which unlock the following cars:
- Aston Martin DB9
- Aston Martin DBR9
- Audi R8
- Bugatti Veyron 16.4
- Dodge Challenger Concept
- Koenigsegg CCX
- Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
- Lancia Delta Integrale Evo
- McLaren F1
- Mercedes SL65 AMG
- Plymouth Road Runner
- Porsche 911 GT3
- Porsche 911 GT3 RS
- Porsche Carrera GT
- Seat Leon Cupra
It's expected that someone creates a handy tool, which unlocks these cars automatically. Who wants to try editing the memory anyway, can look up the codes at the boards of our affiliate website NFSUnlimited:

NFS PS: Punkbuster - Fight the Cheaters! |
Friday, 23.11.2007 |
Electronic Arts contracted with Even Balance to integrate the PunkBuster Anti-Cheat Software into the game Need for Speed Pro Street! Punkbuster is an Anti-Cheat software, which is used in multiplayer-games to bust cheaters. It's mostly integrated in shooters like Battlefield, Quake, Fear and Doom 3. It's new, that such an anti-cheat technology is being used in racing games, but since there were some cheating problems with the last Need for Speed games, I think this is a big step in the right direction. *thumbs up* :)
Major Features in Punkbuster:
* Real-time scanning of memory by PB Client on players' computers searching for known hacks/cheats
* Throttled two-tiered background auto-update system using multiple Internet Master Servers to provide end-user security ensuring that no false or corrupted updates can be installed on players' computers
* Frequent status reports (highly encrypted) are sent to the PB Server by all players and the PB Server raises a violation when necessary which causes the offending player to be removed from the game and all other players are informed of the violation
* PB Admins can also manually remove players from the game for a specified number of minutes or permanently ban if desired
* PB Servers can optionally be configured to randomly check player settings looking for known exploits of the game engine
* PB Admins can request actual screenshot samples from specific players and/or can configure the PB Server to randomly grab screenshot samples from players during gameplay
* An optional "bad name" facility is provided so that PB Admins can prevent players from using offensive player names containing unwanted profanity or racial slurs
* Search functions are provided for PB Admins who wish to search player's keybindings and scripts for anything that may be known to exploit the game
* The PunkBuster™ Player Power facility can be configured to allow players to self-administer game servers when the Server Administrator is not present entirely without the need for passwords
* PB Servers have an optional built-in mini http web server interface that allows the game server to be remotely administered via a web browser from anywhere over the Internet

NFS PS: VGA Benchmarks and Tuning Tipps |
Friday, 23.11.2007 |
The german print magazine PC Games Hardware tested Need for Speed ProStreet with some up-to-date graphic cards and created a comparison chart, which shows what framerates are possible with each card. They tested older models like the AMD Radeon X1950 Pro up to the new 8800 GT, which can even beat a 8800 GTX with the right settings.
Additionally PCGH found out during testing, which settings are best to run ProStreet smoothly. You can reach the best performance with reducing the setting "World Shadows" - the Nvidia 7600 GT gets 45 % more performance with this option disabled. Other important switches are "World Lighting" and "World FX". If you don't get the desired frame rate after disabling these options, you can try to reduce the resolution. Then ProStreet will run also on older PCs, because the system requirements didn't really change compared to its predecessors, even with the damage model.
Fitting this topic, the Windows Vista Magazin made a comparison the detail levels in form of screenshots. Unfortunately some graphics are saved in the GIF-format, which only allows up to 256 colors, so the pictures don't always show the real colors of the game. You can find the link to the gallery here:

NFS PS: How real is real? - New Producer-Blog |
Sunday, 18.11.2007 |
The official website of Need for Speed ProStreet has been updated and features a new entry in the producer-blog. Clay Jensen describes in his article "How real is real?" his trip to the Willow Springs International Raceway, where a did the ultimate reality check, whether Need for Speed ProStreet is as real as it should be. Until that day, he only knew the race track from playing ProStreet, but when he was actually out there on the street, it looked strangely familiar.
Excerpt:
As my instructor and I headed out of the pits onto the Streets course for our first reconnaissance lap, I couldn’t get the eerie feeling out of my head that I’d been here before- a lot. The track elevation, the corner radiuses, the rumble strips, camber, everything felt extremely familiar.
