NFS U: Servers will be shut down Monday, 24.10.2005
NFSUAfter two years NFS Underground is disused and EA shuts the online servers down at the beginning of 2006:

Servers for NFS Underground will no longer be in service as of January 13, 2006. You may continue to play the game up until the closure date, although certain community programs may begin to close down prior to that date. Please be advised that this does not affect PC peer-peer (IP-IP) play that may be a feature of certain games.

All of us at EA would like to thank you for participating in such a special online community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games will continue on beyond this game experience with some of our updated titles.

Happy Birthday! 5 years NFS-Planet Sunday, 23.10.2005
NFS-PlanetHard to believe but NFS-Planet is celebrating its fifth birthday today! On November 23rd 2000 we went online in this form the first time - emerged from the fusion of my old site NFS 5 World and NFS-Store.
NFS-Planet is one of the oldest websites in the Need for Speed genre. We are the only big german website left from the good old times and increased our number of international visitors.
Since months NFS-Planet is on rank 1 of the NFS hitlists, which is not at least because of our up-to-date news and big download area.

On the whole I'm running the site alone, but I want to thank Locutus and Junkie who are running the discussion boards and are always there to help me with posting news, whenever I have no time.
Additionally a thank you to all the affiliates of NFS-Planet, who support us and help to keep the NFS community together.
And not to forget a laud to Electronic Arts, who really try to support us and involve the community, as you can see on the upcoming title Need for Speed Most Wanted.
And last but not least also many thanks to our hoster Gameswelt who provided us a server for the last 6 years. Let's hope they are able to manage the traffic the release of NFS Most Wanted will cause. ;)

In this spirit, to five more successful years! We have some innovations for you in the next time - the works for this are already running. Stay tuned for more. :)

NFSMW: Black Edition Packshot Saturday, 22.10.2005
NFSMWWe have a new packshot of Need for Speed Most Wanted Black Edition (PC). It is the packshot of the american version and according to the boxart it will be released on CD - but it contains a Bonus-DVD. Since the normal version of NFSMW will be released in Europe on DVD, we probably can expect the Black Edition to be on DVD in Europe.
Unfortunately there is still no preorder-possibility for the Black Edition in Europe, but residents of the U.S. can already preorder at Amazon.com.

NFSMW: Sound Recording Friday, 21.10.2005
NFSMWIn the latest Developer Interview on the official website Charles Deenen, the Sr. Audio Director of Need for Speed Most Wanted talks about the sound recordings of the cars. He mentions the difficulties and effort to record realistic motor sound and the differences of sound editing in the movies and in-game.

Excerpt:

CT: The Need for Speed games have been known for their authentic sound and Most Wanted is not likely to be any different. How do you go about capturing sound for a car?

CD: Thanks! We've been trying several methods to capture the sound of a car, and on MW got a little closer again. Cars are hard to capture since loudness of cars don't always translate well to a 'TV' volume media. Some cars which are known for their "size" really sound like puny, un-interesting cars if not played at 100db loudness like the real thing. For us it's all about excitement and character. The 2nd, often most overlooked, aspect is sound reproduction of the car. Cars often have the most 'character' during shifts and take-offs and we've been capturing this as well for MW. This year around we also modeled a whole bunch of new superchargers and turbos by demand of gamers.

CT: How do you get different cars to make different sounds? Do you really have to go out and capture unique sounds for each one?

CD: We try to record as many new cars as we can each year, with the focus on new, exciting cars, different sounding. We usually a concept of feature films, where it's usually more important to get an exciting car to play vs the real (stock) car. Getting permits to block off roads has become a problem with all the new street-racing laws in California. The owners of very expensive cars don't always want to take their car through the rigorous process of a recording session either…. So each year it's getting harder, but we keep going and pushing hard to make sure the customer gets the most exciting sounding game. This year, the car recording process was being handled mainly by Adam Boyd, one of the sound designers on NFS in co-operation with John Fasal, one of the top car recordists in the world.

Additionally they also put a lot of effort in the music and atmosphere:

We set out to create a Hollywood style audio scape to this game… Thousands of dialog lines driven by a brand new speech system, dozens of new cars, 50+ minutes of pulse-pounding interactive music composed by Paul Linford of Gone in 60 second fame and a feature-film style dynamic mixer at work, controlling the mix of all these elements in real-time. We hope the customers like it, and if not, we'll learn, get their feedback and do it all over again.

And we put some new screenshots of the sound recordings of the motors and crashes in our screenshots-section:
