NFS C: Hands-On & Videos @ Game Informer |
Friday, 06.10.2006 |
This week, a new hands-on about Need for Speed Carbon was published by the onlinemagazine Game Informer. Mainly about the online part, the singleplayer-career is also touched:
Carbon is set in a time period post-Rockport (Most Wanted), and everything begins with you being chased through Carbon Canyon by your old pal Cross. Even though you kick Cross’s ass, you end up crashing your ride in a construction area, and Cross pins you down. You’re greeted by Darius and Nikki, and the latter is charged with the job of training you in on these streets. But since your ride got trashed, you need to choose which car you’ll begin with first. Your three options are a Chevy Camaro SS (Muscle), Alfa Romero Alpha Brera (Exotic), or Mazda RX8 (Tuner). Whether you want the best acceleration (muscle), something balanced (Exotic), or something fast and handles well (tuner), it’s up to you. You’ll eventually have access to all three of the different car types, so it’s basically what you want to start your career with.
Interesting news about the collector's edition are also given:
The Collector’s Edition will feature 12 new tracks, six new challenge series missions, and 10 exclusive cars including the 92’ Nissan 240 SX, 07 Jaguar XK, 06 Camero Concept, and the 06’ Koenigsegg CCX.
Some videos are available for download, too.

NFS C: Two new onlinemodes |
Wednesday, 04.10.2006 |
As already stated here there is something more to tell you about the onlinemode of Need for Speed Carbon. There will be two new modes for online racing, called Pursuit Tag and Pursuit Knockout:
In "Pursuit Tag" the player has to escape from up to seven police cars. If you escape within one minute, you get the maximum points and change your role from the hunted to the hunter. This mode takes place in the free roaming world.
"Pursuit Knockout" is a mode which is quite similar to the K.O.-mode of NFS Most Wanted. The gaming concept guarantees quite some action: Up to eight players can participate on one race. The last one gets knocked out each round and turns automatically to a police car and can pursuit the other drivers and have to damage them as much as possible. Each round the number of police cars gets higher until only one driver is left, who has to escape from the police two more rounds until he's declared as the winner.
Good knowledge of the tracks is the A and O in the game, because the players who are acting as the police can block the roads with their cars. The normal players can only use the regular track, but the cop cars can use shortcuts and drive through track areas which are closed to the others.
Which one of the three police cars you get (Rhino, Cruiser or Corvette) depends on the level of your own car.
Sounds nice, doesn't it? :)

NFS C: Q&A @ NFSUnlimited.net |
Tuesday, 03.10.2006 |
Our affiliate NFSUnlimited recently interviewed the producers of Need for Speed Carbon and mentioned some interesting facts about the game. Here's a short extract:
NFSUnlimited.net: Features like 'catch-up' and performance matching in recent games have gamers crying foul. Does this philosophy continue in Carbon?
Kristian von Fersen: We've spent a lot of time this year balancing the AI and tuning the various car classes and tiers within them. Overall, I think that players will notice a much more realistic experience based on the different performance levels of the cars. For instance, it makes sense that a car such as the Mazda RX8 can't keep up with a car like a Lamborghini Murciélago and vice versa. As players progress through the game, they'll reach certain points where the car they're driving just can't quite compete with the competition and they'll have to head to the car lot to make a step up in performance. I think this is a key difference from Most Wanted where you could, through the use of upgrades, make a low end car that could compete with some of the fastest cars in the game.

NFSMW: Trasy HLC Video |
Sunday, 01.10.2006 |
The colleagues of Needforspeed.pl asked me to write a newspost about the following video. It is made by one of the best polish NFS Most Wanted players (2nd at the WCG Poland 2006), weighs around 370 MB and is 17 minutes long. It shows several races of NFS Underground 2 and NFS Most Wanted where the driver really can drive fast.
Have fun!
